Jigs producing good catches in Sarasota Bay!
The water temperature in Sarasota Bay has been hovering around seventy degrees and has the fish active and in the mood to feed. The unseasably pleasant weather, unlike the rest of the country, has resulted in the gamefish hanging on to their early fall patterns. The key to success has been to find good-looking water (clear with no flaoating weeds) in around eight feet of water. Jigs are a time-proven bait along the Gulf Coast of Florida and my personal favorite is the Bass Assassin 4" Sea Shad on a 1/4 ounce jig head. Gold and glow are reliable colors. The bait is very easy to use; simply cast it out, allow it to sink several seconds, then retrieve it back in an erratic manner. Clients on Siesta Key fishing charters are landing bluefish, pompano, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, and a bunch of ladyfish.
