Gag grouper pleasing Siesta Key anglers
We have a different Siesta Key fishing report this week. For whatever reason, Sarasota Bay is full of juvenile gag grouper from hand sized up to 20". These bottom dwelers are being caught on the grass flats while clients on fishing charters are targeting speckled trout and Spanish mackerel. We generally get a run of grouper in the bay, but it normally occurs in August. Perhaps they are just a bit late? In any event, they provide great sport and action on light spinning tackle. Chumming with live baitfish is the most productive technique.
