Good action for Siesta Key fly casters
The winds finally let up and I was able to run a couple of Sarasota fly fishing charters this week out of Siesta Key, Florida. The technique that worked best was to drift with the wind and tide and cast Clouser Minnow patterns out in front of the boat. Red/gold and chartreuse/white were rthe most productive colors and fooled pompano, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, gag grouper, and plenty of hard-fighting ladyfish. The flats up in North Sarasota Bay near Buttonwood Harbor were very productive, as was Big Pass off of Siesta Key, which held some breaking Spanish mackerel and a lot of ladyfish. Clients on fishing charters also did well casting jigs.
