Good fishing in Sarasota between weather systems
After a fabulous February, we have been experiencing some unsettled weather in March. Weekly fronts moved through bringing strong winds and a bit of rain. Action on the deep grass flats has been very productive, with anglers fishing Siesta Key catching a lot of speckled trout and ladyfish, with pompano, bluefish, mackerel, sharks, ands a small cobia mixed in. Bass Assassin Sea Shad baits and Gulp Shrimp on a 1/4 ounce jig head caught all of the fish. The flats from Big Pass north to Buttonwood all held fish. Sheepshead are still plentiful around structure and dococks near both Big Sarasota Pass and New Pass, along with mangrove snapper, Key West grunts, and small gag grouper. Live or dead shrimp fished on the bottom will fool them.
