Storm slows Siesta Key fishing
A severe front moved through Sarasota and Siesta Key mid-week, shutting down fishing for a couple of days. I got back out on Friday to find the water fairly churned up, which was not unexpected. The key to success was finding the cleanest water possible. Big Pass was productive before the incoming tide brought in muddy water from the Gulf of Mexico. The deep flats produced good action as well, with the Middlegrounds being the top spot for anglers. Speckled trout to 20", bluefish to 3 pounds, pompano, snapper, gag grouper, jack crevelle, and ladyfish hit Bass Assassin jigs and free lined live shrimp. Tarpon fishing has really been affected by the dirty, rough water, moving the fish offshore and scattering the schools.
