Summertime Sarasota snappers!
Mangrove snapper fishing has been very steady this summer on the deeper grass flats and in both Big Sarasota Pass and New Pass. Live bait works well with pilchards and shrimp being the most productive. Clients are landing quite a few snapper in the 10" to 12" range on the deep grass flats. Chumming with live and dead bait will bring the mangs up behind the boat. Some larger fish are being caught in structure in Big Pass on the north end of Siesta Key. This good fishing should continue into Spetember, when they will migrate out into the Gulf.
