Surface action pleases clients on Siesta Key fishing charters
It seems like fall is finally arriving, even though it has still been quite warm. The large schools of decent sized pilchards disappeared this week, and gamefish were found foraging on small glass minnows on the surface. This is exciting fishing as fish are seen busting on top and even jumping out of the water as birds also feed on the helpless bait. Anglers on Siesta Key fishing charters landed bluefish, jacks, ladyfish, trout, mackerel and pompano in Sarasota Bay near both Big Pass and New Pass. The pattern that worked best was using 1/4 ounce Bass Assassin jigs in deeper water and then casting shallow diving plugs over grass in 2' to 4' of water where the jigs wouls hang up. Pompano were landed this week as well, a sure sign that we are transitioning to our fall Sarasota fishing patterns.
