Cool weather dictates Siesta Key winter patterns
Persistent fronts have kept the water temperature in the upper 50s in Sarasota Bay, resulting in a change in tactics for clients on Siesta Key fishing charters. Fishing on the deeper flats has slowed with the cooler water. Cool weather dictates this change. Clients experienced steady action while bottom fishing in Big Pass and around docks on Siesta Key and Bird Key. Live shrimp accounted for sheepshead, snapper, and gag grouper. Also, jack crevelle were schooled up in the residential canals and creeks in the area, feeding aggressively and hitting Rapala X-Raps and jigs. A few snook were hooked as well.
