Excellent fishing continues in Sarasota with a lot of surface action!
The excellent fishing contines on the deep grass flats in Sarasota Bay from Marker #5 just north of Siesta Key up to Buttonwood Harbor. The key continued to be the abundance of baitfish schools that hovered over the grass in 5' to 10' of water, which in turn attracted the gamefish. Quite often the fish were seen feeding on the surface, terrorizing the helpless bait. This is very exciting fishing as just about any bait that gets cast into the melee gets savagly attacked. 4" Bass Assassin Sea Shad baits produced very well, as did small Rapala X-Raps. Clients landed speckled trout, bluefish, jack crevelle, gag grouper, flounder, and ladyfish. On a couple of charters the fishing slowed, so a move to catching bait and chumming fired the fish right back up again.
