Good holiday fishing in Sarasota and Siesta Key!
Unseasonably mild weather has resulted in solid fishing here in Sarasota and out on Siesta Key and Lido Key. Anglers fishing Siesta Key are having success casting 1/4 ounce Bass Assassin jigs over grass flats in 6' to 10' of water and in Big Sarasota Pass. Glow/chartreuse was an effective color. Bluefish, speckled trout, jack crevelle pompano, and loads of ladyfish kep the rods bent and clients on fishing charters smiling. This is great holiday fishing that does not require a lot of experience and anglers of all skill levels will enjoy the fast action.
Another option for more experienced clients with a maximum of two anglers is to hit one of the area rivers such as the Braden, Manatee, and Myakka rivers. Large jack crevelle have been the stars so far, but on recent trips snook, redfish, largemouth bass, and ladyfish have alse been landed. Rapala X-Raps and BX Minnow plugs are my baits of choice.
