Great fishing off Siesta Key beaches!
I have a great Siesta Key fishing report this week! Conditions were perfect last week for the bite to go off in the Gulf of Mexico just off of the Siesta Key and SArasota beaches. Light east winds and water temperatures in the low 70s brought the baitfish in close, and that in turn attracted the gamefish. Schools of Spanish mackerel were busting bait on the surface, with small kingfish and blacktip shark picking up the scraps underneath. This is a situation that is perfect for fly fishing as well as spin anglers casting plugs and spoons. The sharks will eat a piece of cut mackerel or ladyfish floated out behind the boat. The king mackerel prefer a live baitfish. Strong winds are forecast this week, but the action should resume after the Gulf settles down.
