Sarasota speckled trout fishing was excellent in April!
Even though anglers had to deal with a bit of wind on most Siesta Key fishing charters, the action on the deep grass flats was VERY good on a variety of species, but particularly with speckled trout. These fish were quite plentiful with a good number of decent sized fish, up to 24". Bass Assassin jigs, Gulp Shrimp, and live shrimp were all productive. All of the flats with expansive grass beds held fish, with the flats on the north side of Siesta Key being the most productive. Along with the speckled trout, anglers landed pompano, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, grouper, snapper, sharks, ladyfish, and big sail cats. The bite should remain good all summer as the larger live bait shows up in Sarasota Bay.
